Flirting in business
By Steve Smith
Why flirting in business is essential.... "Flirting in business! Surely not! Some business managers, scared off by reports of legal actions, sexual harassment cases, and office gossips, think that flirting in business is completely inappropriate. However, they are wrong because the confuse flirting and sex, which are not the same thing. Flirting is merely as advanced communication skill. When we flirt, we engage all of our most powerful negotiation and influencing techniques. Smiling is the first and most important of the fundamental flirting traits in my book. Its difficult to create a good impression on new clients without smiling. It puts others at ease and makes you feel good. All flirts smile a lot. Eye contact is also important. Too much though and people will find it too intense. Eye contact for a few seconds followed by a brief look away is a good rule until it starts to feel natural. Positivity is the third of the "big three". Use positive language, pay positive compliments, act positively by keeping your chin high, sitting up straight, or leaning in to show interest. Great flirts are sometimes no that obvious. When Margaret Thatcher needed to negotiate, she was known to be quite flirtatious. Bill Clinton, John F Kennedy, Donald Trump, and Richard Branson are also great flirts. There is nothing inappropriate about flirting in business; its about being friendly and making people feel good. |

Really good advice! Even for those of us not in business. Ramp up your charm at the greenmarket and you get to go home with the freshest, plumpest vegetables.
